Luke Powell

"In Afghanistan," Luke Powell told us, " I found a way of life that dominated much of the world for many centuries. If we do not know what a shepherd is, how can we understand The Torah, The New Testament, or The Koran? How can we realize the extent of our common heritage?"

An American from North Carolina, Luke took extended journeys through the Fertile Crescent from 1971 to 1978, later producing a folio of 32 dye-transfer photographs that have been exhibited from Moscow to Montana.
