Humanity initially built its network around Proof of Humanity (PoH), a decentralised mechanism to verify that users are unique, real humans using palm biometrics and zero-knowledge proofs, without compromising privacy. PoH has been central to ensuring Sybil-resistance (i.e., preventing fake or duplicate accounts) on the network.
Now the project is transitioning to Proof of Trust (PoT) as its core consensus and identity framework. Rather than just confirming uniqueness, PoT expands this concept to establish verifiable trust credentials about individuals that go beyond being human. For example, attesting to specific identity traits like age, residency, education, employment, or compliance status, while still preserving privacy. PoT uses decentralized identifiers (DIDs), verifiable credentials (VCs), and zero-knowledge proofs as the backbone of this trust layer.
