About Humanity Protocol

Humanity Protocol is building the human verification layer for the AI age - a decentralized identity platform that establishes human uniqueness in the digital world. Our technology combines palm-based biometric verification, zero-knowledge cryptography, and blockchain infrastructure to create a system where over 9 million users maintain complete control of their digital identities.

In an era of increasingly sophisticated bots and deepfakes, we provide a trust layer that works universally across both digital and physical spaces. Our platform enables developers to build Sybil-resistant applications, organizations to verify real humans without invasive data collection, and individuals to prove their humanity once while accessing everything from social networks to secure venues - all without ever sacrificing privacy.

Our mission is to empower humans with the freedom to own their identity, control their data, and shape a future where trust is built, not bought.

We are looking for

We are seeking an exceptional Senior DevOps Engineer to partner with our DevOps lead and accelerate our infrastructure modernization across critical initiatives. This role requires expert-level Terraform, AWS, and Node-derived infrastructure tooling expertise.

You'll help guide our architect environment strategy, establish comprehensive observability with APM tooling, harden production security for blockchain infrastructure, automate secrets management, and build the disaster recovery systems that enable us to scale from 9M to 100M+ users.

As Senior DevOps Engineer you will

  • Architect and implement a robus environment infrastructure (dev, staging, production) using Terraform, establishing clear promotion policies, branch-to-environment mappings, and automated deployment gates that prevent production incidents

  • Deploy and configure comprehensive APM and monitoring infrastructure (DataDog, SigNoz OpenTelemetry), guide instrumentation with distributed tracing, custom metrics, and intelligent alerting that achieves <5 minute mean time to detection

  • Build production-grade CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, implementing automated testing gates, deployment rollback procedures, feature flag integrations, and zero-downtime deployment strategies that achieve 99%+ deployment success rate

  • Harden production security through IAM role restructuring, multi-factor authentication enforcement, security group optimization, audit logging configuration, and infrastructure vulnerability scanning that meets SOC2 and GDPR requirements

  • Implement event-driven infrastructure supporting Kafka deployment, topic management, consumer group monitoring, and integration with existing microservices for asynchronous credential lifecycle events

  • Automate MongoDB operations implementing migration validation for credential schemas, backup/restore procedures, performance tuning for 100M+ credential queries, index optimization strategies, sharding configuration, and proper OLTP vs OLAP separation through read replicas that maintain <500ms p95 latency

You are a good fit if you have

  • 7+ years of DevOps/SRE experience with proven track record managing production AWS infrastructure serving 1M+ users at startups or high-growth companies

  • Expert-level Terraform skills with deep understanding of state management, module design, workspace strategies, and infrastructure as code best practices for managing complex multi-environment AWS deployments across ECS Fargate, networking, and security services

  • Deep AWS ECS Fargate expertise including task definition optimization, service auto-scaling, load balancer integration, secrets injection, IAM role configuration, container health monitoring, and blue-green deployment strategies that achieve 99.9% uptime

  • Production MongoDB operations experience managing MongoDB Atlas clusters at scale (100M+ documents), implementing sharding strategies, optimizing indexes for credential queries, configuring replica sets, performance tuning for <500ms p95 latency, and handling backup/restore procedures

  • Security-first mindset with Web3 experience implementing IAM least-privilege policies, secrets rotation, vulnerability scanning, audit logging, SOC2/GDPR compliance controls, plus blockchain-specific security (RPC endpoint hardening, oracle security, hot/cold wallet management, KMS integration for credential signing)

  • Nomad orchestration experience (highly valued) having deployed and managed Nomad clusters, understanding Nomad vs Kubernetes tradeoffs, and experience with HashiCorp ecosystem (Vault, Consul) for decentralized infrastructure patterns

  • Database operations breadth managing MongoDB (primary focus), PostgreSQL, and Redis in production including backup/restore, replication, performance tuning, disaster recovery testing, and multi-region data strategies

You will succeed if you have

  • A self-starter mentality with ability to drive infrastructure projects independently, make architecture decisions autonomously, and deliver results without constant oversight

  • Extremely strong documentation skills creating clear runbooks, architecture diagrams, deployment guides, and infrastructure documentation that enables team self-service

  • Experience scaling infrastructure through hypergrowth (10x traffic increases), managing cost vs performance tradeoffs, and maintaining stability during rapid feature development

  • Background in fintech, identity, or blockchain infrastructure where uptime, security, and compliance are non-negotiable requirements, with hands-on experience securing Web3 applications and managing cryptocurrency/credential signing infrastructure

  • Strong collaboration skills working closely with backend, frontend, QA, and product teams to understand requirements and translate them into infrastructure solutions

Technology Stack

  • FE/BE: TypeScript, Node.js, Express.js, Bun, NestJS

  • Databases: MongoDB Atlas, PostgreSQL, Redis

  • Infrastructure: AWS ECS Fargate, Docker, API Gateway, CloudFront, Vercel

  • Authentication: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, PKCE, API keys

  • Identity Standards: W3C Verifiable Credentials, DIDs, BJJ+ signatures

  • Cryptography: Zero-knowledge proofs, selective disclosure, encryption libraries

  • DevOps: GHA, Terraform

Team Values

  • User-first: We focus on making the best engineering choices that deliver the best user experience whether it is a consumer using or developer implementing our technology.

  • First-principles: We approach problems by breaking them down to their fundamental truths and reasoning up from there, rather than "doing things just because"

  • Agency: We are a team of self-starters and trust our engineers to make decisions independently because of our culture of clear communication.

  • A.I.: Our team wholly embraces the tasteful use and integration of A.I. in all our workflows from product to engineering.

If you're passionate about building secure infrastructure that powers decentralized identity at global scale, we'd love to talk with you.
